Who We Are
-
Adaptive Creative Arts Therapy was founded by Faith Marafino, a New York State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) and Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) with more than five years of experience serving individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Faith built this practice on a simple belief: that every individual deserves access to therapy that meets them where they are. Music is that bridge.
-
The clinical and evidence-based use of music to accomplish individualized, non-musical, functional goals. Music engages both cognitive and emotional systems, making it especially effective for individuals who cannot access traditional talk-based interventions.
-
Music therapy supports
Emotional regulation, identification, and expression
Functional communication, relationship-building, and social skills
Coping skills and executive functioning
Self-advocacy and increasing independence
Attention and engagement
and more!
-
No musical background or talent is required! The therapist meets each individual in the here and now, using music as a flexible, non-threatening tool to support their specific goals. A natural responsiveness to music is all that's needed. Most individuals find music to be an engaging and motivating medium from the very first session.
